A Russian cathedral that celebrates Orthodox services for a war-torn diaspora. A holy well in the Hungarian countryside where the Roma minority converges for its annual pilgrimage. A mosque that educates third-generation Viennese Muslims. A South Hungarian city where wild demons invade the streets during one carnivalesque day in early spring. The splendid monastery library where the manuscript department of the Austrian National Library treasures its medieval Bibles and Qur'ans.
Many religious sites, some famous, others quotidian, surround the CEU campuses in Vienna and Budapest. The Center for Religious Studies regularly organizes field-trips and excursions for its students, guided by faculty and local hosts.

Religious Communities Around CEU: A Walking Tour
September 16, 2025
At the opening of the Academic Year, the CEU Center for Religious Studies invited interested students and staff to explore the coexistence of religious communities in the immediate vicinity of our campus, located in one of Austrias’s most diverse immigrant neighborhoods. During this 90-minutes tour, we visited two mosques and two churches, where we were welcomed by religious leaders and community members.
