Research Travel Grants for CEU Students

The Center for Religious Studies offers religion-related research travel grants to Advanced Certificate Religious Studies students. The grants are intended to complement their departmental research travel grants and to supplement their research costs specifically regarding Religious Studies aspects of their research travel which may not necessarily be covered by their departmental travel grant. The student grant applications will be accepted on an on-going basis throughout AY 2022/23 from October – June.

Eligibility: all MA and PhD students enrolled in the ACRS, and CRS Junior Members, are eligible to apply.

Amount of support available: a maximum of EUR 250 per project.

Use of funds:  The CEU BPF acknowledges as enforceable expenses costs relating to the travel to the location, local travel, participation fees at the conference, visa, accommodation, travel insurance. This said, under the covid-19 situation, the following applies:

As per last year’s regulations regarding travel, CEU will not provide additional support – above and beyond what is awarded to the student - for housing, living, and travel-related costs due to unexpected additional costs related to Covid-19. The funds that students have received are final. Please take the time to consider your travel plans (be prepared for any unexpected cancellations/closures/additional expenses) and should you still wish to go abroad CEU wishes you a successful and safe trip. 

Expenses not covered by this grant:  The grant shall not be spent on the following and CEUBPF shall not accept invoices of archive and library fees, drinks, meals, daily fee (per diem), fuel, photocopy.

Reporting: Within one month after the expiration of the grant period, a final report shall be presented for CEUBPF (sent to your program director and coordinator), which shall also be considered by your supervisor from scientific aspect. The report shall contain all written material in its planned or final version, which were created with the help of the grant.

Application Process: To apply for this support, CRS requests you send the following to  religion@ceu.edu:

1. A detailed research plan
2. A research timetable
3. A summary of preparations (who you plan to meet, where you plan to go)
4. A complete budget detailing all the planned use of funds and how much you are asking for
5. Please briefly explain in your documents the request’s relevance to your thesis and why the funds cannot be obtained/covered by other means

Application Timetable:

1. From October 2022 to June 2023, ACRS students may submit proposals to CRS
2. The CRS Grants Commitee approves grantees on a first come, first served, case-by-case basis. They will answer the student's request within two weeks.
2. Should a student's grant request be accepted, a CEU research grant application form will be prepared with the help of the CRS and submitted to CEU Grants Committee by the deadline (see schedule below*). You will also be required to produce a recommendation letter from your supervisor.

You will be informed of the decision shortly after the Grant Committee Meeting takes place.
