Research Travel Grants for CEU Students

The Center for Religious Studies offers religion-related research travel grants to Advanced Certificate Religious Studies students. The grants are intended to compliment their departmental research travel grants and to supplement their research costs specifically regarding Religious Studies aspects of their research travel which may not necessarily be covered by their departmental travel grant. The student grant applications will be accepted on an on-going basis throughout AY 2021/22 from October – June.

Eligibility: all MA and PhD students enrolled in the ACRS, or as CRS Junior Members, are eligible to apply.

Amount of support available: a maximum of EUR 250 per project.

Use of funds:  The CEU BPF acknowledges as enforceable expenses costs relating to the travel to the location, local travel, participation fees at the conference, visa, accommodation, travel insurance. This said, under the covid-19 situation, the following applies:

As per last year’s regulations regarding travel, CEU will not provide additional support – above and beyond what is awarded to the student - for housing, living, and travel-related costs due to unexpected additional costs related to Covid-19. The funds that students have received are final. Please take the time to consider your travel plans (be prepared for any unexpected cancellations/closures/additional expenses) and should you still wish to go abroad CEU wishes you a successful and safe trip. Students are encouraged to reschedule fieldtrips if their travel is not possible or safe. Field trips grants can be used to hire local operators remotely. Students who can’t use their approved fieldtrip grants because of a lockdown or travel restrictions, can use them at a later time, with the approval of the supervisor and the CEU Grants Committee.

When field work, archival investigations and other research activities that involve travel are not possible or are severely restricted, master’s and doctoral students can use research, academic travel and summer school grants to hire local field operators/technicians remotely, or to pay for other justified alternative research costs, such as data purchase or online interviews or experiments, pending permission from the CRS Grants Committee.

Expenses not covered by this grant:  The grant shall not be spent on the following and CEUBPF shall not accept invoices of archive and library fees, drinks, meals, daily fee (per diem), fuel, photocopy.

Reporting: Within one month after the expiration of the grant period, a final report shall be presented for CEUBPF (sent to your program director and coordinator), which shall also be considered by your supervisor from scientific aspect. The report shall contain all written material in its planned or final version, which were created with the help of the grant.
